- The air and oil divisors are used in compressors, with the purpose of performance the filter paper, turning the pulverized lubricating oil into heavy drops that by gravity, separate themselves from the compressed air going to the bottom of the tank.
During the compression the lubricated compressor produces contaminated elements. These elements should be removed in order to have good pneumatic circuits run and that is why the air and oil separator is used.
Its function principle is the same as the coalescent elements. The contaminated air, with oil steam in micro drops that doesn’t suffer the gravity action because its mass is too low, passes thru the separator fibers and gets together becoming larger, so by the gravity action, it is taken to the bottom of the element where this oil is gathered by the fisher tube returning to the system.
Still in this process, a small part of oil remains in the air. This quantity is measured in ppm (parts per million). It is normally accepted 5 to 8 ppm of oil carried in the disposal, which will be removed by the coalescent filters in the line.
